The Burt Films Mission
This is a veteran’s story about vision loss and how the Veterans Administration has been in the forefront of helping these heroes establish order back into their lives. On January 8th, 1944, President Roosevelt made a commitment to help blinded war veterans. Then on May 28, 1947, President Truman assigned the responsibility of treating blinded veterans to the Veterans Administration. This action created the 1st Blind Rehabilitation Center (BRC).
Burt Films’ mission is to educate veterans about their rights to VA healthcare. The VA cannot promote its services to veterans and too many of them don’t even know if they qualify to receive the care they’re entitled to. Burt Films is dedicated to helping our veterans in need.
Burt Films has worked closely with the administrators of the BRC in Long Beach, California, as well as their affiliate, the Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST), in Las Vegas. Our company has received unparalleled support from the VA. They’ve given Burt Films the exclusive rights to produce a documentary on the BRC for commercial distribution. The focus of this film is to educate veterans and to highlight the tremendous training the BRC provides to countless veterans with vision problems. The technical innovation spearheaded by the BRC will be displayed in this documentary.
But most importantly, the film will feature the journey of our visually impaired veterans as they go through the 6 to 12 week, individually crafted programs, at the BRC. This documentary will demonstrate the mission of the BRC to help veterans achieve independence through various programs developed by the incredible staff at the Blind Rehabilitation Center.
Initially, the program is designed to allay the fears of a veteran whose skepticism exists when entering the program. But as we follow the veterans’ stay at the BRC, their personal journey is documented and we see fear turn into hope, and the success of the BRC becomes a reality for our veterans.
The founders of Burt Films are Vietnam Era veterans and we need your support to fund this documentary. Please click on our GoFundMe or Facebook button at the bottom of this page and donate what you can so this critical story can be told. A worthy veteran will be in your debt forever.
Our goal is to make Independent Again the first in a series of stories told about the VA that will be produced by Burt Films. Help us launch this very important look inside the VA and the hope they bring to our veterans.
Thanks in advance for your support.
